pd 8 - β Positive Physics QUIZ Today on Circuits unit 20 challenge 2!
Today, we will learn what happens when we put a charge in a magnetic field. Watch the video below on "Force on moving charge in magnetic field". In the video, we'll learn how magnetic fields and electrical charges interact. We'll learn the formula for force on a moving charge in a magnetic field. We'll also learn the right hand rule to figure out the direction of the force. Finally, we'll learn about the shape of the path of a moving charge in a magnetic field and how to quantify it.
If you need additional support, check out section 19.2 in your textbook.
Then, we'll practice magnetic force problems by doing β Positive Physics unit 202: magnetism "work" problems from the sections:
magnetic fields
magnetic force calculations 1
Homework: Finish these β Positive Physics problems by Tuesday at 10pm. Only completion score counts. No late work will be accepted.
Optional Extra Practice: textbook chapter 19 conceptual questions 4, 5, 6, 7, 9 and exercises 4, 7, and 9
pd 6 - β Positive Physics QUIZ Today on Circuits unit 20 challenge 2!
Today, you'll see a real life application of charges simultaneously in multiple fields we've already learned about. As practice, on a blank piece of paper, explain how a mass spectrometer works with a picture, force diagrams, and equations for all three regions.
Then, we'll practice mass spectrometer problems by doing β Positive Physics unit 202: magnetism "work" problems from the section:
magnetic force applications
Homework: Finish these β Positive Physics problems by Thursday at 10pm. Only completion score counts. No late work will be accepted.
Optional Extra Practice: Mass Spectrometer Problems from AP Exam
Today, we'll look at what happens to a current carrying wire in a magnetic field. We'll learn the second right hand rule for a current carrying wire in a magnetic field, which is just a new perspective on the first one. We'll look at a couple of demonstrations to see how well you understand the first two right hand rules.
First watch my 10 minute video "Magnetic force on a current carrying wire."
Then, we'll practice F=IlB problems by doing β Positive Physics unit 202: magnetism "work" problems from the sections:
