M 5/6
π’ 5: W 5/1 - ππΒ transformers
Today, we'll see how transformers work and how they can be useful. Β We'll use Faraday's Law of Induction to derive the relationships between primary/secondary numbers of coils, voltage, and current in ideal transformers.Β (Know the ideal transformer equation.)
Watch this video on how transformers work:
You can check out this demo to see a transformer in action:
Then, we'll practice ideal transformer problems by doing page 1 only of π Transformers WS (PH). Finally, we'll do just a few additional transformer problems from section 26.2 in your textbook with π Mastering Physics "Ch26 - transformers" problems #9, 11, 12.Β Β
Presentation:Β Electromagnetic Induction Presentation continued
Homework:Β Complete page 1 only of π Transformers WS (PH) and finish the above π Mastering Physics problems by Friday, May 3rd at 10pm.Β Unit Assessment on all of Electricity & Magnetism (everything since we started talking about charging and electrostatics, including circuits, magnetism, and induction; does not include transformers) on Thursday, May 2nd.Β Β
Optional Extra Practice:Β Another transformer video.Β Do page 2 of FYP: Electromagnetism (ANSWERS).Β Β
