Happy Prom! 💃🕺
Today, catch up on anything you haven't finished.
Today, our goal is to perform a lab activity where we experimentally calculate the speed of sound in air using what we know about resonance in pipes that are closed at one end. We'll record the data on LAB Speed of Sound. Use the following information to calculate an experimental value for the speed of sound in air:
v = f λ
Accepted value for speed of sound in air v = 331m/s + (0.6m/s ⋅ °C) T where T is the temperature of the air in Celsius. You'll use this formula to compare to your experimental value.
(Don't use a tuning fork below G 384Hz. Try to find at least 2 resonance lengths.)
Find your experimental value using at least two data points. Then do a percent error analysis.
Handouts: LAB Speed of Sound
Homework: If you have all of your data, finish the calculations for homework. If you need more time to get data, you'll have some time next class. Unit Assessment on Waves & Sound on Friday, June 12th.
Today, we'll take a look at electromagnetic waves through an investigation. In teams, you'll research different bands of the electromagnetic spectrum, and then you'll individually share what you've found. Each person will be responsible for completing the Electromagnetic Spectrum Sources Chart.
Handout: Electromagnetic Spectrum Sources Chart
Homework: Waves Unit Assessment on Friday, June 12th. (Electromagnetic waves are not on the unit assessment.)
