What happens to a current carrying wire in a magnetic field?

Today, after reviewing the force on a moving particle in a magnetic field, we'll look at what happens to a current carrying wire in a magnetic field.  We'll learn the second right hand rule for a current carrying wire in a magnetic field, which is just a new perspective on the first one.  We'll look at a couple of demonstrations to see how well you understand the first two right hand rules.  

With the remainder of class, you'll do FYP: Electromagnetism #1-10.  If you don't finish this in class, don't worry, you'll have some more time next class.
 
Homework:  If you have not completed the textbook homework from the previous night, work on that first.  Then, read sections 19.4-19.5, and pay special attention to trying to understand how a DC motor works.  Answer conceptual questions 18 & 20 (p 690) and exercises 19, 21, 23, and 27 (solutions).
